Iraq: Discovery revives Kurds’ oil and gas prospects

A gas discovery in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), announced in mid-November, should lift some of the gloom surrounding the region’s oil and gas sector. Norwegian independent DNO – one of the first international oil companies to arrive in northern Iraq in 2004 – announced the find in an exploration licence area that was relinquished by ExxonMobil, along with five other blocks, in late 2016.
