Iraq: Abdel-Mahdi fills out cabinet roles

The Iraqi parliament approved three of the four outstanding positions in the cabinet of Prime Minister Adil Abdel-Mahdi on 24 June, with Najah Al-Shammari – a former commander of the Special Operations Squad and a former deputy commander of counter-terrorism forces – taking on the critical position of defence minister. He will be joined by Yassin Taha Al-Yassri as interior minister and Farouq Amin Al-Shawwani as justice minister.
