Tehran has tried to counter the push from Washington for the painfully stitched-together Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal to be amended or scrapped, by warning that abandoning it would create a fresh crisis. Deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told Chatham House in London on 22 February: “It is a choice between having security and insecurity at the world level. If we lose JCPOA we would face another nuclear crisis which will be very hard to resolve.”
