Iran: UN points to Yemen sanctions-busting

Issue 1052 - 25 Jan 2018 | 1 minute read

A United Nations committee has reported that Iran violated an international arms embargo on Yemen introduced in 2014 to prevent the supply of weapons to Houthi rebels. The findings by the Panel of Experts have been handed to the UN Security Council but remained under wraps until revealed in a report by French news agency AFP on 12 January. Saudi Arabia has frequently accused Tehran of supplying weapons to the Houthi fighters, including ballistic missiles which have been repeatedly fired into Saudi Arabia. Iran denies any wrongdoing.
