Iran: Surprise return for the Damavand

Issue 1080 - 10 May 2019 | 1 minute read

An Iranian navy destroyer that crashed at the entrance to the Caspian Sea port of Bandar-e Anzali last year is due to return to service, according to local media reports. The Damavand reportedly sank after running into a concrete breakwater at the entrance to the port in heavy seas in January 2018. However, Mehr News Agency reported on 6 May that repairs had been completed and the ship will resume operations in the near future.
