Phase 20 of the South Pars natural gas field development officially came on stream on 19 March, on the 66th anniversary of the nationalisation of the Iranian energy industry. The new phase has a production capacity of 25 mcm/d of gas and 40,000 b/d of gas condensate. The additional output will mean Iran no longer needs to import natural gas from Turkmenistan, according to National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). Production of phases 16 and 19 has also recently resumed, and the offshore platform for phase 21 came on-stream in early March.
