Iran: Rouhani, IRGC trade insults with uncertain consequences

President Hassan Rouhani’s dispute with conservative and revolutionary factions has continued since his re-election; and the war of words is increasingly sharp. It may end up being nothing more than a very public continuation of well-established sparring between reformist and principalist factions, but it sets the scene for what could be a feisty second term for Rouhani. It also has the potential to be used as a reason for Rahbar (Supreme Leader) Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to clamp down on debate to the detriment of the president.
