Iran: Rial to be replaced

The cabinet agreed on 23 July to replace the rial with a new currency, the toman – a name for currency units which has been used officially in the past in Iran and remains in unofficial use. Cabinet secretary Mohsen Haji Mirzaei said the surprise move had been reviewed by the government’s economic commission over the past six months.
