Kuwait struggles to find viable response to Covid-19 crisis

While the pandemic continues unabated in Kuwait, with the death toll reaching 358 on 1 July, the economic consequences of the pandemic and low oil prices are challenging the very foundations of state finances. Since the Eid holidays, Kuwaiti nationals have accounted for the majority of new coronavirus infections in the emirate, often averaging 60% of daily cases even though they make up only 30% of the overall population. Sources tell GSN it is highly likely that some Kuwaiti-dominated neighbourhoods will be put in lockdown, including the Al-Jahra municipality and the Sabah Al-Salem and Saad Abdullah neighbourhoods.
