Iran: Foreign minister in Lebanon

Foreign affairs minister Mohammad Javad Zarif travelled to Beirut on 10 February for talks with Lebanon’s newly-formed government and other prominent figures. Among those he met were President Michel Aoun, prime minister Saad Al-Hariri, foreign minister Gebran Bassil and parliamentary speaker Nabih Berri. Also included were meetings with Hizbollah secretary-general Hasan Nasrallah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad secretary-general Ziad Al-Nakhala and members of the Hamas political bureau. Iran was pleased by Bassil’s confirmation on the second day of the trip that Lebanon was not going to send a representative to the anti-Iran conference held in Warsaw later that week,
