Iran: Earthquake puts authorities under pressure in sensitive corner of country

President Hassan Rouhani visited the quake-hit north-western region of Kermanshah on 14 November, where he vowed to build 30,000 new homes. The government has also promised $235m in grants and soft loans for the region. More than 500 people lost their lives and over 7,500 were injured in the earthquake, whose epicentre was across the border in Iraq.
