Iran: Consulate in Karbala targeted by protestors

The Iranian consulate in Karbala was attacked by dozens of protestors on 3 November, amid troubles across Iraq. Three people were killed after security forces opened fire on demonstrators in an assault that didn’t appear to cause any major damage; protestors burnt tyres around the consulate compound and some scaled concrete barriers; they replaced an Iranian flag with an Iraqi one. Iranian officials sought to play down events. In June, Bahrain’s Baghdad embassy was stormed.
