The Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) has launched GCC-Stat, a statistical centre for the region which is based in Muscat and was formally established on 8 April. Due to serve as a common official pool of statistics and data for member states, it was founded in June 2011 and its charter was officially endorsed in December 2012. Its director general is Sabir Bin Said Al-Harbi, and it has a co-operation agreement with Eurostat, the official statistical body for the European Commission.
