GCC divided and resentful as Qatar crisis rumbles on

Seven weeks into the Qatar crisis, diplomatic activity has continued, led by Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah and US secretary of state Rex Tillerson. However, a resolution appears as far away as ever after Qatar rejected its GCC-3 adversaries’ demands and garnered considerable sympathy for its argument that it has done more to tackle terrorist financing than some, at least, of its critics. Events over the past fortnight suggest the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) is on the path to collapse or irrelevance.
