France: Chirac funeral draws Gulf heavyweights

Jacques Chirac, president of France from 1995 to 2007, died on 26 September. Among those to attend the funeral at Saint-Sulpice church in Paris on 1 October were Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Saudi minister of state Mansour Bin Miteb Bin Abdelaziz, Kuwait’s former prime minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah and UAE minister of tolerance Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al-Nahyan.Chirac’s most telling Gulf-related policy was his opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
