Flood damage as Tehran spars with US over aid flows

A diplomatic spat has broken out between Tehran and Washington, in the wake of floods that are devastating the country. On 2 April, secretary of state Mike Pompeo offered condolences to the victims but added “these floods once again show the level of Iranian regime mismanagement in urban planning and in emergency preparedness. Pompeo said the US “stands ready” to contribute aid to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which could then pass the money on to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS).
