Fire shuts Algerian mega gas field

Issue 236 - 27 Jul 2012 | 1 minute read

An industrial accident in early July caused a total shutdown of Algeria’s biggest gas field for nearly eight hours. Two condensate storage tanks each with 14,000m3 capacity were destroyed in an explosion at Module No 1. Local media reported that the accident was due to a failure to control a small fire, which had broken out earlier the same day. The blast occurred while emergency response teams injected foam inside blazing gas holders to try to quash the flames.
