Italy’s Eni on 9 July announced a second light oil discovery on the B1-X exploration prospect in the South West Meleiha licence in the Western Desert. The SWM B1-X well is the second drilled by Eni to explore the deep geological sequences of the Faghur Basin. It was drilled to a total depth of 4,523 metres at a site 7km from the first discovery, SWM A2-X. The well encountered 35 metres of light oil in the Paleozoic sandstones of the Carboniferous Dessouky formation and in the Cretaceous Alam El Bueib sandstones.
