Issue 410 - 27 Feb 2020 | 1 minute read

Lekela Power has held a ground-breaking ceremony marking the start of construction for the 250MW West Bakr Wind project. Located 30km north-west of Ras Gharib in the Gulf of Suez, West Bakr Wind is part of the government’s build-own-operate scheme for developing new wind and solar projects as Egypt works towards a target of generating 20% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2022. The project will prevent more than 550,000 t/yr of CO2 emissions, Lekela said.
