Egypt: Energy ministry firms up coal and nuclear projects

The government has set in train two coal-fired generation projects which in addition to the planned nuclear plant at Dabaa will further diversify Egypt’s energy mix and ensure nearly 13GW of additional baseload power in five to ten years’ time. On 3 July, minister of energy and renewable energy Mohamed Shaker told the Energy and Environment Committee of Majlis Al-Nawab (parliament) that the Ayoun Moussa clean coal generation plant would go ahead.
