Egypt: EGPC breaks new ground with Iraq expansion

Emboldened by the government’s plan to pay off its arrears to international oil companies (IOCs) this year, Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) signed its first international upstream partnership for a block in Iraq in March. But while its partnership with Kuwait Energy and Dubai-based Dragon Oil breaks new ground, the company is not entirely new to overseas operations. Its oil and gas engineering subsidiary Petrojet has established permanent facilities at a location south of Basra and is already carrying out hundreds of millions of dollars-worth of contracts there.
