Deteriorating relations with Cairo

Abu Dhabi’s clampdown on Islamists continues to shake relations with former ally Egypt. In January, crowds of protesters gathered outside the Emirati embassy in Cairo, demanding the release of 11 Egyptians arrested in the UAE on suspicion of being members of a Muslim Brotherhood cell, and chanting slogans such as “wake up Dubai” and “an Egyptian is a free man and will never be humiliated”.
