Failure to address local environmental concerns and RWE’s divestment programme are hampering the development of gas in the West Nile Delta concessions, writes Nadine Marroushi in Cairo. The deal signed by BP and Germany’s RWE Dea in July 2010 to bring gas reserves in the North Alexandrian and West Mediterranean concessions on stream by 2014 is one year behind schedule due to pressure from environmentalists.
