China fosters closer military ties

Military relations between China and the Gulf Co-operation Council states appeared to strengthen in August, with warm words exchanged with Kuwait and some deal-making with Saudi Arabia. Kuwait’s assistant army chief of staff for administrative and human resources Brigadier Khaled Al-Shimmari on 1 August said military co-operation with China has been growing, particularly in terms of exchange of technology and expertise. He was speaking at a function held by the Chinese Embassy at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Kuwait City to mark the 89th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army’s foundation.
