No longer able to rely on imports from South Africa, Botswana is looking to coalbed methane to meet its long-standing power generation shortfall, writes Kevin Godier. Plans for a major coal bed methane (CBM) project are unfolding in north-east Botswana, where Kalahari Energy is looking to prove that the gas reserves at its lease areas in Mmashoro, on the eastern side of the Kalahari Karoo Basin, are commercially viable.
