The Saudi-led coalition has heightened its level of activity following weeks when conflict had become less intense, but its re-engagement in Yemen continues to be countered by resistance from the Houthis and forces allied to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Overall, the long-running stalemate has yet to be broken, with the south somewhat stable and northern Yemen defiant in the face of attempts to expel Houthi and Saleh forces. Increasingly, key battles have been taking place along the coast and there is speculation that coalition forces could undertake a sea-based offensive in the west, particularly around Hodeida.
