Bahrain: UK naval base opens

Britain officially opened a new, permanent naval support facility at Mina Salman port in Bahrain on 5 April. HMS Juffair, also known as the Mina Salman Support Facility, will act as a hub for the UK Royal Navy’s operations in the Gulf, Red Sea and Indian Ocean. Around 300 military personnel and civilian support staff will be based at the site, although there is space for up to 550 people for short periods.
