Bahrain: Sheikh Ali Salman charged with insulting interior ministry

Bahrain’s Public Prosecution has charged the head of the main opposition group Al-Wefaq, Sheikh Ali Salman, with insulting the authorities. Al-Wefaq said he was questioned for five hours on 3 November, but was later allowed to return home. 
Sheikh Salman, who is Al-Wefaq’s secretary-general, is the most senior figure to have been charged since opposition protests began in 2011. The charges were linked to an exhibition which showed alleged police abuses against anti-government protesters. The authorities said Sheikh Ali Salman and others had delivered “instigative speeches” at the exhibition’s opening, and closed down the display, saying it incited hatred.
