The trial of Al-Wefaq secretary-general Sheikh Ali Salman resumed on 25 March, only to be adjourned again until 22 April. The trial at the Higher Criminal Court, which began on 28 January, is proceeding at a snail’s pace – something the opposition suggests is a deliberate attempt by the authorities to draw out the process and paralyse Al-Wefaq, the main Shiite opposition group in Bahrain.Salman has been accused of promoting political change using illegal forceful means and threats, inciting non-compliance with the law, and publicly inciting hatred.
