Human rights activist Nabeel Rajab lost his appeal against his six-month sentence for insulting government institutions on 14 May. President of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights Rajab was initially sentenced in January after saying on Twitter (in 2014) that Bahrain’s interior ministry was an incubator of extremist ideologies for Bahrainis who travelled to Iraq and Syria to join Islamic State. According to Amnesty International, Rajab was not present in court for the verdict.
