Bahrain Grand Prix outmanoeuvres political resistance

In 2011, political unrest forced the cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix and, each year since, those campaigning for reform have tried to get the event removed from the Formula One calendar, citing the government’s ongoing human rights abuses. To no avail: on 6 April, as in the past two years, the racing fraternity gathered at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), this time to mark the tenth anniversary of the race in Bahrain.In 2012, the opposition was at least able to attract a hailstorm of media attention to the troubled nation.
