Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa held meetings with the heads of all major political societies in Bahrain on 15 January, including the Shia opposition, in an attempt to calm rising tensions and restart the National Dialogue.Opposition anger has been stoked in recent weeks by the charging of Sheikh Ali Salman, the head of the main opposition group Al-Wefaq, and his deputy Khalil Al-Marzooq, and the deteriorating and increasingly provocative relationship between the two sides has led to the suspension of the National Dialogue – which had in any case made little progress since beginning in February 2013.
