In an attempt to overcome its financial crisis, the government in Manama has accelerated its policy of expelling foreign workers, a variety of local sources have told GSN. Bahrain began to dismiss expatriate Arab workers more than a year ago as it grappled with the economic downturn, but the process appears to have been stepped up recently. Hard numbers are difficult to come by, but GSN has heard of dozens of Palestinian and Jordanian workers who have sent their families home to the West Bank and Jordan in June, during the holy month of Ramadan, and others that have been applying to migrate to Europe.
