Bahrain/Kuwait: More citizenships revoked

Kuwait revoked the citizenship of another 18 nationals on 29 September, including a prominent opposition activist. State news agency Kuna said 11 of the 18 were naturalised citizens whose nationality had been unlawfully granted; it was not clear why the other seven were stripped of their nationality.Kuwait has increasingly been using citizenship as a means of controlling dissent, despite international criticism of the practice. One of those affected in the latest round was Kuwait-born Saad Al-Ajmi, spokesman of the nationalist opposition Popular Action Movement.
