The buyer behind the world record $450m purchase of a Leonardo da Vinci painting of Jesus Christ at an auction in mid-November was named by The New York Times as Prince Bader (sometimes written Badr) Bin Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Farhan Al-Saud. The Al-Faharn branch prince was not previously known as a serious art buyer, which led to questions about his wherewithal for such an extravagant purchase, why the painting would interest him and what connection there might be to Abu Dhabi?
