IEA hires Africa programme manager

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has hired former BBC journalist Maximilian Jarrett as its first Africa programme manager to help expand the agency’s reach and coordinate its work as it deepens its engagement across the continent. The IEA said its work on Africa’s energy access issues had expanded significantly and would continue to do so. In 2019, it appointed former United Nations under secretary-general Kandeh Yumkella as an adviser on Africa and energy access issues, and last October it published an Africa Energy Outlook.
