Africa lags behind world biofuels growth

While Europe, Brazil and India have seen substantial growth in biofuel production for the transport sector during the past decade, Africa has lagged behind, despite the continent’s potential to be a bio-energy powerhouse. Africa accounted for less than 0.05% of global biofuel production in 2013, while Africa’s production of bio-ethanol reached 235m litres or 2.7% of the word total in 2012, according to soft commodities analyst FO Licht.
