Tanzania: China Power in Kinyerezi deal

Issue 259 - 26 Jul 2013 | 1 minute read

Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) and China Power Investment signed a $300m financing agreement on 16 July for the 600MW Kinyerezi III power plant in Dar es Salaam. Speaking at the signing ceremony, energy minister Sospeter Muhongo said the government planned to accelerate the annual rate of economic growth to 10%/yr by 2015 by increasing availability of affordable and reliable power supply. He said the government alone could not meet these goals, so “we have decided to involve the private sector”.
