Qatar moves closer to Turkey on defence deals

There have been further signs of the increasingly close relationship between the military establishments of Qatar and Turkey over the past couple of months. The republic’s state-owned military software company Havelsan (owned by the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation) announced in early January that it had built an AgustaWestland AW139 flight simulator for the Qatari military, to become operational in April. Some 50 officers from the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF), headed by Mubarak Mohammed Al-Khayarin, were trained at Havelsan during the production phase.
