Kenya court halts Taipan drilling

Issue 289 - 20 Nov 2014 | 1 minute read

Taipan Resources subsidiary Lion Petroleum has temporarily been prevented from drilling its Badada-1 well on the western confines of Block 2B in Wajir County by an injunction from Kenya’s High Court. The injunction was granted after 22 residents of the Badada Lagbogol Division in Wajir West Constituency filed an urgent petition on behalf of the Ajuran people, claiming they would be displaced if drilling begins and that they had not been properly informed about the Canadian company’s operations. The case will be heard on 25 November. In a statement, Taipan said it was confident the injunction would be revoked and it hoped to spud the well in early January 2015.
