The new head of the French secret service, the Direction Générale des Services Extérieurs (DGSE), is a career diplomat with a long history of links to the intelligence services. Bernard Bajolet (born 21 May 1949) was appointed on 10 April by President François Hollande. He had been French ambassador to Afghanistan since January 2011.
