Vestas, SMA Solar Technology and Solarcentury have all announced large new contracts in South Africa over the past month as second-round renewable energy independent power producers reach financial close.
Vestas on 3 July announced a contract to supply, install and commission turbines for the 93MW Tsitsikamma Community wind farm in the Eastern Cape. Tsitsikamma is owned by Exxaro/Tata joint venture Cennergi (75%), South Africa’s Watt Energy (16%) and Tsitsikamma Community Trust (9%). Vestas will deliver 31 3MW V112 wind turbines from Q2 2015, with commissioning expected Q1 2016.
