Egypt faces blackouts as Ramadan starts

As the holy month of Ramadan begins, the likelihood of serious blackouts in Egypt has intensified – and in the current post-coup environment, any major outage raises the risk of further social unrest. Shortages of bottled cooking gas and vehicle fuel may be easing as both Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi have promised finance and supplies of refined products. However, this will not alleviate the pressure on the electricity sector, which still depends on Qatar making good on past promises.
