An €85m ($96m) loan is under appraisal at the European Investment Bank for the interconnection of the Gambia River Basin Organisation (OMVG) member countries. The project to link the grids of Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Gambia and Senegal will play an important role in the West African Power Pool by connecting the existing Senegal River Basin Development Organisation network in the north to the Côte d’Ivoire-Liberia-Sierra Leone-Guinea (CLSG) network in the east. The CLSG interconnection will initially connect the electricity network of Guinea to the southern backbone that joins the grids of Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin and Nigeria. The OMVG line will then extend the connection to Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal.
