Court rejects law against Maliki third term

Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court has ruled that a law passed in January, which sought to block a third term for Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, is unconstitutional. Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish parties had all come together to support the bill, and prevent Maliki standing again in 2014 elections: 170 out of 242 MPs present approved the law restricting the posts of prime minister, parliament speaker and president to two four-year terms.
