Chinese warships visit Gulf

The People’s Liberation Army Navy of China’s 24th escort fleet is in the middle of a four-country tour of the Gulf. The fleet consists of guided-missile destroyer Harbin, missile frigate Handan and supply ship Dongpinghu. The fleet first called into Saudi Arabia, before moving on for a five-day spell in Doha from 21 January. It is due to call in to the UAE and Kuwait. On 20 January, the fleet carried out exercises to test its capabilities with search and rescue and inspecting suspect vessels.
