Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif travelled to Turkmenistan, India, Japan and China in early May, as part of efforts by Tehran to counter the threat of US sanctions by keeping open its cross-border trade channels and improve the prospects for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal in light of recent US actions.
