Yemen: Sanctions placed on Saleh and Houthi leaders

The United Nations imposed sanctions on former president Ali Abdullah Saleh on 7 November, accusing him of engaging in “acts that threaten the peace, security or stability of Yemen”. After more than a year of threatening such action, the UN said Saleh had reportedly become one of the primary supporters of violent Houthi actions in northern Yemen since autumn 2012, and that he had been trying to undermine the central government and create enough instability to threaten a coup.
