Although the security crisis will prevent him taking up his post in situ, the UK has appointed Edmund Fitton-Brown as the new ambassador to Yemen, replacing Jane Marriott. A member of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) since 1984, Fitton-Brown’s last post was counsellor in Dubai; previous postings have been in Riyadh, Cairo, Kuwait, Rome and Helsinki. Marriott had been in Sanaa since July 2013. On 22 February, she said on Twitter that her new job would be UK director covering the Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa.
