Westinghouse challenges nuclear tender

Tender
Issue 284 - 12 Sep 2014 | 2 minute read

Westinghouse Electric is disputing the award of a R4.2bn ($388m) tender to replace six steam generators at the Koeberg nuclear plant to France’s Areva. The South Gauteng High Court on 5 September gave Eskom five days to hand to Westinghouse “all relevant documentation relating to the tender”, the US company said. Eskom said it was already transferring the documents following a request from Westinghouse’s lawyers. The case is embarrassing for the government as it prepares for potentially the largest procurement process in the country’s history, for 9,600MW of planned new nuclear capacity, to be built, owned and operated by Eskom.
